Ookla Speedtest Global Index

According to Ookla Speedtest Global Index for September 2020, India is ranked at 129 in terms of mobile data speeds. India’s average mobile download speed is 12.91Mbps which is lower than Pakistan (18.42Mbps), Nepal (18.42Mbps) and Sri Lanka (16.91Mbps). Pakistan is ranked at 114, while Nepal and Sri Lanka are ranked at 115 and 122, respectively.  Qatar became the leading country in terms of mobile Internet speeds. 

On the part of fixed broadband speeds, India is ranked at 65 with an average download speed of 53.90Mbps and average upload speed of 50.75Mbps. Thailand became the top country in terms of fixed broadband speeds, with 308.35Mbps of average download speed and 260.86Mbps of upload speed.

India’s Crude Oil Imports Surged Highest in Three Years

India’s crude oil imports in December 2020 jumped to the highest levels in almost three years to more than 5 million barrels per day (bpd). Imports were about 29% by December 2020 compared to 11.6% in earlier year, displaying increased fuel consumption. India is the third largest importer and consumer of crude oil in the world.

India’s First Woman Combat Pilot to Also Become First Woman Fighter Pilot to Participate in R-Day Parade

Flight lieutenant Bhawana Kanth, the first woman combat pilot of India is going to participate in Republic Day flypast this year on 26 January 2021. With this, she will also become the first woman fighter pilot to take part in R-Day parade. She is posted at an airbase in Rajasthan at present.

Ravindra Jadeja Ruled Out of Test Series Against England

After completing a historic victory in Australia, Virat Kohli-led Indian unit now take on England in all three formats of the game. The game begins from February 5. Moreover, Chennai will organize first two Tests. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja will travel to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for rehabilitation. The left-arm spinner had dislocated his left thumb during the third Test in Sydney, Australia. 

500-Year-Old Stolen Copies Recovered of Salvator Mundi

Salvator Mundi is a painting by the Italian renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci. It is one of the few of the twenty-known works of Leonardo. The painting depicts Jesus in Renaissance dress making the sign of cross with his right hand. In the painting he also holds a transparent crystal orb in his left hand. Moreover, the painting represents “Celestial Sphere” of the heavens. There are twenty other variations of the same work by the students of Leonardo da Vinci. However, the legend himself created the original painting.

Salvator Mundi is the most expensive painting in the world. Saudi Prince Badr bin Abdullah purchased this painting for 450 million USD in 2017. Scholars believe that the Salvator Mundi might had painted for Louis XII of France and presented to him after the Second Italian War.  

Goa CM Released a Book Named ‘Manohar Parrikar – Off the Record’

Goa Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant has released a book ‘Manohar Parrikar- Off the Record’ at a function. A city of Goa organizes the function at Institute Menezes Braganza hall. Senior journalist Waman Subha Prabhu has authored the book.

The book is a collection of memories of Mr Prabhu who was with late Parrikar during the journey of his life. The author has endeavoured to narrate the multifaceted personality of late Manohar Parrikar in the book. The Goa Chief Minister also said that Manohar Parrikar was a great visionary and how he dreamt to serve Goa.

The Journey of Biden from Being One of the Youngest Senators to Oldest US President

Joe Biden is popular as a peoples’ person, a reformer, a unifier, and a healer. He rose remarkably from the position of the youngest Senate to the oldest American president in US history. On Wednesday, he reached the pinnacle of his political career spanning nearly five decades. The 78-year-old Democratic senator triumphed over Republican President Donald Trump in the presidential election. Moreover, he ran twice unsuccessfully for President i.e. in 1988 and 2008.

Etihad, Qatar Airways will Resume Flights Between UAE and Qatar

On Wednesday Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways clears in a statement that they would restart direct flights to Doha from next month. The airline also said that later this month they will resume flights to the United Arab Emirates. Both the countries, UAE and Qatar have suspended the flight services between them since mid-2017.



Pandemic Surges Food Prices and Leaves Many People Hungry in Asia

The Covid- 19 pandemic destroys the jobs of people and pushes food prices higher. Agencies of the United Nations (UN) have warned that more than 350 million people in the Asia-Pacific region are going hungry.

The report issued by four agencies states that the pandemic is making it difficult for 1.9 billion people to afford healthy diets. It also follows an earlier report that forecasts that in a worst-case scenario 828 million people may suffer from acute hunger.

Trump Writes A ‘Very Generous’ Letter for Biden Before Leaving the White House

The world watched Donald Trump’s and US President Joe Biden’s sparring movements and heated arguments during elections. But, Trump left a “very generous” letter for Biden in the Oval Office before departing the White House.

However, the former president broke several of the traditions including skipping Biden’s inauguration ceremony. The predecessor of Biden never formally congratulated him on his election win. But, Trump has maintained the tradition of outgoing presidents leaving notes for their successors.
