NTPC Bags the Top Honour for Corporate Social Responsibility

In CII-ITC sustainability awards 2020, India’s largest power producer NTPC bags the top honour for their CSR activities. National Thermal Power Corporation got the ‘excellence’ award in the domain of corporate social responsibility. NTPC also won this award in 2019. Moreover, NTPC is the only PSU to be conferred with the award in corporate excellence category.

India’s First Hot Air Balloon Wildlife Safari Launched at Madhya Pradesh

On 25 December 2020, at Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh forest minister launched India’s first hot air balloon wildlife safari. With this service, visitors will be able to watch tigers, bear and leopards from a height. The service will be restricted to the buffer area of the reserve. It might prove a boost for the tourism sector in the state.

FRUITS Portal Launched for Farmers by Karnataka Government

Karnataka government launched FRUITS (Farmer Registration and Unified beneficiary Information System) portal for farmers. This portal will register all farmers of the state and provide them a unique identification number. The portal will be run by Canara Bank on a pilot basis.

Former England Cricketer Robin Jackman Passed Away at the Age of 75

Former England cricketer Robin Jackman has died on 25 December. The International Cricket Council informed about his demise and said he died at the age of 75 years. He played four Test matches and 15 one-day internationals. Jackman took 1,402 wickets in a 399-game first-class career between 1966 and 1982. He also became a commentator, after his retirement, in South Africa. Jackman also lived in South Africa with his wife Yvonne.

V.P Venkaiah Naidu Released a Book ‘Oh Mizoram’

Today Vice-President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu released a book of English poems titled ‘Oh Mizoram’. Mizoram Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai wrote the beautiful poems presented in the book. VP Naidu said in his speech that Pillai is a multi-faceted person. He is also a successful lawyer. Moreover, he is a former politician, an organizer par excellence, an orator, a prolific writer, a philanthropist, and a thinker. The fact that despite his busy life, Pillai has written 125 books in Malayalam and English amazed Naidu. His books cover variety of topics including politics, social and legal issues and poetry. The book ‘Oh Mizoram’ released today is Pillai’s first poetry collection in English.

Pillai’s poems highlight Mizoram’s pristine natural beauty. The book also points out Mizoram’s colourful festivals, folk music, and energetic dance that make Mizo society truly unique. Nature has blessed the Mizos with a natural talent for music often called as “songbird of the East”. The poems also tackle social problems. Referring to a poem on diabetes, Naidu said “It captures the emotion of a man who had planted a mango sapling. When the tree bears fruits, the poet has a temptation to pluck them. But then he looks back at his insulin shot and closes the window with a broken-heart.”

Curfews, quarantines and even closing of borders complicated the celebrations of Christmas on Friday. China’s capital was put on high alert after the confirmation of two positive and two new asymptomatic Covid-19 cases last week. As a repercussion of this, in Beijing, official churches abruptly cancelled Mass on Christmas Day. Similarly, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth in her annual festive message said, “many people want for Christmas this year is a simple hug”. She also said those who had lost their family members to Covid-19 pandemic, this Christmas would be hard for them. Also people separated by curbs on social mixing faced many difficulties. But people around the globe keep the Christmas day special because of ingenuity, determination and imagination.

Afghan Army: 2 Officers Killed by Roadside Bomb in North

In the north of Afghanistan another explosion occurred and this time this explosion killed at least two Afghan Army officers. A vehicle containing two army officers including a battalion commander was hit by a roadside bomb. The accident took place in the northern Balkh province of the country. The attack was the latest amid relentless violence in Afghanistan.

South Africa’s health minister has rejected the claim made by British minister. He said that there is no such evidence that a new coronavirus variant in the country is more dangerous than a similar one the UK. Moreover, Scientists also not proved yet that the 501.V2 (variant) is more transmissible than the United Kingdom variant. France Finds its First Case of New Coronavirus Variant

France has confirmed the first case in the country of the more contagious coronavirus variant recently identified in the UK. According to the French health ministry the person is a French citizen who had arrived from London. The infected person is asymptomatic, and currently self-isolating at home. The appearance of the new coronavirus variant in England triggered travel curbs with dozens of countries.
