SBI’s Mega e-auction

State Bank of India (SBI) is conducting an electronic auction (e-auction) for the mortgage properties on 30th December, 2020. The bank will put up more than 1,000 properties that will include residential and commercial properties belonging to the bank loan defaulters. This way the bank tries to get its money back by selling those properties in this auction. Bidders will have to visit the official website of the SBI — sbi.co.in or their nearest branch for more details.

WhatsApp Payments Goes Live

WhatsApp rolls out its new payments feature of WhatsApp Payments or WhatsApp Pay for up to 20 million user base in India. State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank support this feature of WhatsApp . In other words WhatsApp’s payment service will enable users to transfer money in a simple and secure way similar to sending messages. National Payments Corporation of India Develops the (NPCI). This payments system works on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) method, where one can transfers the funds by linking it with the bank account.

Google India’s Partnership with Sheroes to Empower Rural Women Entrepreneurs

Google India is going to partner with Sheroes to support 500 rural women entrepreneurs by connecting them with experts and providing access to resources, guidance and mentorship, significant to enhancing digital skills and running businesses. Previously in 2015, Google had launched Internet Saathi program in collaboration with Tata Trusts to provide basic digital literacy skills to rural women in India and other women in their communities.

Prime Minister Modi honoured With ‘Legion of Merit’ by Trump

US President Donald Trump presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with topmost US honour ‘Legion of Merit’ on 21 December 2020. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, India’s ambassador to the US received the award on behalf of Prime Minister at White House in Washington. The Legion of Merit is an award of the USA and foreign military personnel in four grades receives it. So,PM Modi receives the highest grade ‘Chief Commander of the Legion of Merit’ award for his leadership in elevating the strategic partnership between India and USA. PM Modi is the first prime minister and only the third Indian to receive the highest degree Legion of Merit. Before him, Field Marshal K M Cariappa and General Satyawant Mallanna Srinagesh have been honoured with this award.

Senior Congress leader and former MP chief minister Motilal Vora passed away at the age of 92

Veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora passed away at the age of 92 years on 21 December 2020. He was the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh and also a member of Rajya Sabha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed grief on his demise. He was born on 20 December 1928 in Nagaur district of Rajasthan. He also served as governor of Uttar Pradesh from 1993 to 1996.

National Mathematics Day on 22nd December 2020: Celebrating the genius Ramanujan

India celebrates National Mathematics Day on 22nd December every year. The nation celebrates this day on the birth anniversary of Indian mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan. He was born on this day in the year 1887 in Erode in Tamil Nadu. In 2011, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced to celebrate his birthday as National Mathematics Day.

Government officially allows including four indigenous sports into Khelo India Youth Games 2021

The sports ministry has now granted its approval to include four indigenous games in Khelo India Youth Games 2021 which will take place in Haryana. The latest games included are Gatka, Kalaripayattu, Mallakhamb, and Thang-Ta.

Kiren Rijiju, the Union Sports Minister, also apprised that India has a rich heritage of indigenous sports. It is a priority of the Sports Ministry to encourage, preserve and make popular these games. Moreover, he added that Khelo India is the only platform where the athletes of these games can compete.

Bihar migratory bird festival

Bihar is proposing its first ever migratory three-day bird festival in Bhagalpur district this year. It is to be jointly organised by Bhagalpur Forest Division, Bombay Natural History Society, and the local Mandar Nature Club. The region also attracts a large number of migratory birds between November and March every year as birds find the region favourable to spend the winter. The festival also intended to prevent cases of poaching in the region.

The main objective of holding the festival is to create awareness among the people about the significance of migratory birds. Some migratory birds also arriving in the region are common greenshank, Eurasian coot, Eurasian curlew, Ferruginous duck, great crested grebe, steppe eagle, etc.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has launched a new book titled ‘Future of Regional Cooperation in Asia and the Pacific’. The book reviews progress with regional cooperation and integration in Asia and the Pacific. The book explores how it can be reshaped to plan for a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive future. It also explores opportunities available for economies in the region to work together to recover and rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The UK Bans its Flight Services as New Coronavirus Strain Spreads Across the Nations

On Sunday, Several European Union nations banned flights from the UK. The kingdoms interior ministry says that one-week flight ban may be extended “until medical information about the nature of new strain virus becomes more clear.” The country’s land and seaports will also be closed for a week. Other countries like Germany, Belgium, Saudi Arabia and more also banned their flights to the UK for some time.

A private airline of Nepal flew 69 passengers to the wrong destination

Passengers are supposed to be landed in Janakpur Nepal. But they were in for a surprise after they ended up in Pokhara. A private airline landed the passengers 255 kilometers away from the actual destination. According to a media report on Sunday, this happened after a rare flight mix-up by a leading private carrier. Although, the weather was not quite favorable for the flights on Friday. So, carriers were making use of every available weather window to take the passengers on board as quickly as possible and take off.

US president-elect Joe Biden on live television receives Covid-19 Pfizer’s vaccine shot

After Israeli Prime Minister now US President elect Joe Biden receives the first course of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. He took the first dose of Coronavirus vaccine at Christiana Care Hospital live on television. Biden did this to demonstrate that people should be ready to take the vaccine when it is available. He also motivated the US citizens and clears the misconceptions of vaccines among people.

China’s economic recovery is not yet solid turning the city into dark

China said the economy is not fully recovered after the outbreak pandemic. However, China may be the only major world power to record positive growth this year. China’s President Xi Jinping says the country’s economy had yet to fully recovered from the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, China pledged financial support for recovery efforts at the end of a key annual policy meeting on Friday. Later, in eastern China, authorities turned off streetlights for several days turning city into dark. Authorities also ordered factories to open only part-time. The country’s rapid economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic and unexpectedly frigid temperatures have sent demand for power surging. China is scrambling to restrict electricity use this winter.
