Over 5.82 crore Jan Dhan (PMJDY) accounts are out of service in India. The Finance Ministry has informed about this situation in Rajya Sabha and said that at least one out of 10 Jan Dhan accounts is inoperative. The guidelines issued by RBI said that savings and current accounts should be treated as inoperative or dormant if there will no transaction occurs in the account for over a period of two years. Moreover, the total number of Jan Dhan accounts that were opened is 42.83 crore with a balance of nearly ₹1.43 lakh crore.

On August 10, the 127th Constitution Amendment Bill was passed in Lok Sabha unanimously. During the session, the votes were divided and 385 members were in the favour of this amendment bill leaving no one against it.
