Vaccination for Covid-19 from 1st March for Senior Citizens

Under India’s Covid-19 vaccination drive, shots will be given to senior citizens from 1st March 2021. In this phase of vaccination, citizens above the age of 60 will get the dose. People aged over 45 with comorbidities will be also given the shots in this round. At around 10000 government-run facilities and 20000 private centres, people can get vaccinated in this phase. There will be no charge at government centres while people have to pay some charge at private hospitals.  

Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2021

In the recently announced Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards for 2021, Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone won in the best actor category for their roles respectively in Laxmii and Chhapaak. Tanhaji was declared the Best Film. Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput was honoured as critic’s best actor while Kiara Advani won in the female category of the same award for her role in Guilty. Moreover, Best series was awarded to Hansal Mehta directed and hugely acclaimed series Scam 1992. In the web series categories, Bobby Deol for Ashram and Sushmita Sen for Arya bagged the best actor honours.

Government Launched National Urban Digital Mission

Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launched National Urban Digital Mission on 23rd February, 2021. The objective of the program is to create a shared digital infrastructure for cities. The Ministry also launched the India Urban Data Exchange developed by the Smart Cities Mission in association with the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.

President Inaugurates World’s Largest Stadium in Gujarat

President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad on February 24, 2021. It will have a seating capacity of 1.32 lakh spectators. The refurbished Sardar Patel Stadium will now be known as Narendra Modi stadium. The President also performed the ground-breaking ceremony for a sports complex in the stadium. He also named it Sardar Patel sports complex, for sports like football, hockey, basketball, kabbadi, boxing, and lawn tennis among others. Additionally, this stadium has surpassed the Melbourne Cricket Ground and became the largest stadium in the world.

Australia’s Oldest Aboriginal Rock Art Identified

Recently, archeologists have identified a kangaroo’s painting in Australia with the help of some ancient wasps. They predicted that aboriginal community artists had created the painting over 17,000 years ago. Moreover, the painting, a two-meter-long artwork, was identified as Australia’s oldest intact rock art. The archeologists discovered the painting on the sloped ceiling of a rock shelter in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Renowned Punjabi Singer Sardool Sikander Dies

On February 24, 2021, renowned Punjabi singer Sardool Sikander passed away at the age of 60. He had tested positive for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and also getting treatment for it. Sikander was an Indian singer who also worked in Punjabi-language folk and pop music. He made his first appearances on radio and television in the early 1980s with his introductory album ‘Roadways Di Laari’. He also acted in some Punjabi language films, like Jagga Daku.
