Domestic Systemically Important Banks: SBI, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank Continue to Remain in the List

State-owned SBI and private banks HDFC and ICICI continue to remain as Domestic Systemically Important Banks (D-SIBs) of the country. India’s central bank RBI released the list of D-SIBs based on the framework for dealing with D-SIBs. The term used for such banks is ‘too big to fail banks’ which means fall down of these banks will be terrible for the economy.

India celebrates 125th birth anniversary of great freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose on 23rd January 2021. He was born in the year 1897 in Cuttack of Odisha. He formed Azad Hind Fauz to fight for the independence of the country. This year government is observing his birthday as ‘Parakram Diwas’.

India’s Longest Road Arch Bridge Inaugurated in Meghalaya

Meghalaya’s chief minister Conrad K Sangama inaugurated Wahrew Bridge at Sohbar in East Khasi Hills district. It is the country’s longest road arch bridge. The bridge is constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 49.395 crore and the construction work was completed in December 2018.

India Achieved the World’s Fastest Rollout to Administer 1 Million Doses of Covid Vaccine

India’s vaccination campaign started on 16 January 2021. Within six days of the drive, India have administered more than 1 million shots of covid vaccine. It makes it world’s fastest rollout. About 12.7 lakhs shots have been administered within a week.

Shubman Gill Said Camp with Yuvraj Singh was Very Useful

Risa in the Culture of Tripura

The Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb recently wore ‘Risa’ on Kokborok Day. ‘Risa’ is the traditional dress of the Tripura. Risa is worn by both men and women of Tripura. The Chief Minister has made Risa his style statement and is promoting it at national and international level.

The dress of Tripura women has two parts namely Risa and Rikutu. Risa covers the chest part and rikutu covers the whole upper part. Rigwani or Rignai covers the lower half of the Female body. Men of Tripura wear Risa for head turban and also for tying the waist over Dhuti. When men wear Risa, it gives them strength and indicates the status of the person. It is also used as muffler in winter season.

Popular Bhajan Singer-Narendra Chanchal Passed Away

Narendra Chanchal, a very popular bhajan singer died at the age of 80 on Friday. Delhi’s Apollo Hospital admitted him on November 27. Several people who liked and admired Narendra Chanchal’s devotional songs have posted condolence messages. They also shared his popular numbers on social media. Besides several bhajans, Narendra Chanchal had also sung in Hindi films as well. Moreover, he had won an award for the song beshak mandir masjid in the film Bobby in 1973.

Brazil Receives 2 Million Covid Vaccine Doses from India Amid Supply Concern

India sends 2 million doses of coronavirus vaccine to Brazil. The department of Health Ministry Brazil announced that on Friday the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford landed in Sao Paulo. Then it has taken to Rio de Janeiro, where Brazil’s state-run Fiocruz Institute has an agreement to produce and distribute the vaccine. However, experts warned the shipment will do little to shore up an insufficient supply in South America’s biggest nation.

Central African Republic Declares State of Emergency

The Central African Republic has declared a 15-day state of emergency throughout the country. The country’s Republic has imposed the emergency as a coalition of armed groups seeks to overthrow the newly re-elected President. The spokesperson for the presidency has announced on national radio. He said the state of emergency applies until February 4.

The inauguration of Kamala Harris as America’s vice president has further strengthened the importance of the relationship between the United States and India. According to a top White House official she was sworn in just before Joe Biden took the oath to become the 46th President of the United States. Israeli Warplanes Strike Targets in Central Syria

On early Friday Israeli warplanes fired several missiles in central Syria. Syrian state media reported that Israel fired the warplanes without giving word on casualties. The attack took place shortly before dawn when Israeli warplanes flew over neighboring Lebanon. Over the years Israel has launched hundreds of strikes against Iran-linked military targets in Syria. But, the country rarely acknowledges or discusses such operations. The report added that Syrian air defense units shot down most of the missiles.

New Pandemic Plight as US Hospitals Are Running Out of Vaccines

Dr. Esmaeil Porsa is facing one of the most formidable challenges as the coronavirus spread across Texas. As a result, the Houston hospital system he operates is running out of vaccines. The CEO of Harris Health System warned that their entire supply could be depleted by midday Saturday.
