RBI penalizes Bajaj Finance for unfair practices

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a fine of Rs 2.50 crores on Bajaj Finance for violating RBI’s directions on ‘Fair Practices Code (FPC) and outsourcing of financial services by a Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC)’, in other words the NBFC failed to prove that its recovery agents did not commit harassment or intimidation of customers while collecting dues.

Digital Payments Index introduced by RBI

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has come up with a Digital Payments Index (DPI) to measure the extent of digital payments across India. The five parameters that the central bank mentioned to enable measurement of penetration of digital payments include payment enablers, payment infrastructure – demand-side and supply-side factors, payment performance, and consumer centricity.

Vietnamese buy rice from India amidst hike in local prices

Vietnam has started importing rice from India for the first time in decades. The prices of Vietnamese rice grain is highest in nine years now. In terms of world’s largest exporter of rice, India stands at first position and Vietnam at third.

Satya Paul, an iconic fashion designer, passed away at the age of 79 in Coimbatore on January 6. He had suffered a stroke in December last year, and was recovering in a hospital before he was moved to the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore.

A book on India’s tours Down Under by R. Kaushik
