Tripura Tourism to Be Upgraded with Boost from Asian Development Bank (ADB)

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is about to provide a loan of Rs 2,100 crore to Government of Tripura for the development of urban areas and tourism. Initially ADB would provide Rs 40 crore for engagement of project design and managerial consulting for urban and tourism sectors. Then the ADB will provide Rs 1600 crore for development works in urban local bodies and Rs 500 crore tourism sector over the next 3 years.

McDonald’s Another Step Towards Contactless Orders: WhatsApp Platform

The fast-food giant McDonald’s is upgrading its online delivery system in India. The north and east division of McDonald’s in India will be receiving orders through WhatsApp as well. In the initial stage, this new service is limited to Delhi NCR only. To place an order, one will send ‘Hi’ to 9953916666, which is McDonald’s India’s official WhatsApp number.

ICICI Bank Launches Online Platform for Foreign Firms Expanding Business

The platform will provide banking solutions, as well as value-added facilities to the customers. National Farmers’ Day on 23rd December

Amid the ongoing farmers’ protests, India celebrates Rashtriya Kisan Diwas. National Farmers’ Day is celebrated on 23rd December every year. The day marks the birth anniversary of former prime minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh. The contribution made by him for agricultural reforms are celebrated on Kisan Diwas. Known as ‘champion of India’s peasants’, Charan Singh was born on 23 December 1902.

Production Starts At Bengal Basin – India’s Eighth Functional Basin

ONGC starts crude oil production at Bengal Basin making it India’s eighth functional basin. There are 26 basins in India in total. Three of which are offshore basins and sixteen are on land. Seven of 26 are located partly on land and partly offshore. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan dedicated the basin located at Ashoknagar-1 well in 24 Pargana district to the nation on 20 December, 2020.

Two Teenager Students From Pune School Discovered Six New Preliminary Asteroids

Students of Vikhe Patil school of Pune have discovered six new preliminary asteroids close to earth. Arya Pulate and Shreya Waghmare were part of the campaign conducted by Kalam Centre and International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC). Total of 27 asteroids were discovered by 22 students selected across the world under the campaign.

Pakistani Cricketer Mohammad Amir Confirms Retirement from International Cricket

On December 17, 2020 Pakistani pacer Amir, announced his retirement from International cricket to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). In an official statement, PCB confirmed that Mohammad Amir, a 29-year-old Pakistani pacer had confirmed to the PCB Chief that he has no wish to play international cricket any more. He also said that he should not be considered for future international matches.

Sixth India-Japan Samwad Conference

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently addressed the sixth India-Japan Samwad Conference through video conferencing. During his address, he proposed to create a library of traditional Buddhist literature and scriptures. From different countries the library will collect digital copies of Buddhist literature. Moreover, it will aim to translate and make them freely available for all monks and scholars of Buddhism. The library will also examine how the Buddhist teaching can guide modern world against contemporary challenges.

The main objective of sixth Samwad Conference is to engage in dialogue and debate.  Another objective is that it will carry forward the ancient tradition of spiritual and scholarly exchanges. This library will highlight values between India and Japan.

The first Samvad Conference was held in New Delhi at Bodh Gaya in 2015. During the conference, the leaders and academicians exchanged views on conflict avoidance and environmental consciousness.

Vice President Releases A Book on Former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

M Venkaiah Naidu, the Vice President, has released a book with title ‘40 Years with Abdul Kalam- Untold Stories’. The book describes the life of the former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The former president Pranab Mukherjee of India wrote the foreword.

Dr. Kalam made the Defence sector of India stronger, and also contributed in the development of space capabilities of the country. Moreover, the book narrates his life events including the events at ISRO, DRDO, and BrahMos.

One Death in Every 33 Seconds in US’ Deadliest COVID-19 Week So Far

In the United States last week, people died in every 33 seconds from Covid-19. The disease claimed more than 18,000 lives in the seven days. The US health officials requested the citizens not to travel during the end-year holiday season. But, US airports staffs screened around 3.2 million people on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Health officials are in deep worry that a surge in infections from holiday gatherings could overwhelm hospitals. However, the country has begun to administer two new vaccines. This may be months before the inoculations put a dent in the coronavirus outbreak.

BioNTech Said We Can Make Mutation-Beating Vaccine in 6 Weeks

On Tuesday, the co-founder of BioNTech said their vaccine against the coronavirus works against the mutated strain detected in Britain. But the company could also adapt the new vaccine if necessary in six weeks. Scientifically, it is highly likely that the immune response by produced vaccine also can deal with the new virus variant.

Britain Scientists Probe New Covid Variant’s Spread in Children Also

Scientists in the UK are investigating the impact of a new strain of coronavirus on children. The Government’s New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group (NERVTAG) is monitoring the data to analyze this arc of the variant. Earlier strains of coronavirus found it harder to infect children as they do not have the doorways to receive the virus. But, this new variant can easily cross this doorway in easily and thus it is faster in transmission than the old strains. Therefore, children are equally susceptible to this virus as adults.

Lawmakers Urge US Government to Further Tighten the Restrictions on China’s SMIC

On Tuesday, two key Republican lawmakers urged the Trump administration to strengthen the new guidelines. The administration adopted the guidelines on Friday that aimed toward stopping China’s greatest chipmaker SMIC from having access to superior US.
